A Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Seeks to Curb the Influence On Speculators

Marking the launch of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership has been formed. The Pokémon Company alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store stocked with special merchandise. Fans will find offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork that are inspired by the museum's theme. The big draw, however, will be a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. This shop is scheduled both the physical location to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.

Pokécology That Inspires the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited tome packed with beautiful artwork depicting Pokémon in their wild environments. It's essentially is what a Pokémon Professor might publish after adventurers provide field notes, alternatively what Charles Darwin might have created had the Galapagos were populated by Pidgeys rather than finches. A key appeal lies in the book's serious treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of scientific study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara and artist Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.

What Makes This Special Card Stand Out

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company special edition promos for major tournaments or crossover partnerships. A lot such promotional cards often feature the iconic electric rodent who serves as the series face. The factor setting this new museum card however, is the distinctly bigger size. Although exact measurements were not immediately shared, its distribution is guaranteed to be strictly limited, and customers limited to just one card with each transaction.

Curbing Reseller Interest

According to an official announcement, some of the merchandise will also be sold beyond the museum walls. But, broader availability is slated for specific stores in the UK. Importantly, collectors cannot purchase the card via the online Pokémon Center. Although reseller interest is a given, the setup suggests they will have trouble stockpiling large numbers this time around. For those feeling left out, there is the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to Chicago later this year.

"Every penny of sales from the Museum shop and its web shop, including these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the efforts of hundreds of researchers who are conducting studies and finding answers to the global ecological crisis," it says.
