Ex- Doctor Faces Assault Allegations Against 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have announced that a ex- physician now faces charges for carrying out assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
Details of the Grave Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.
A senior CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges follow what police called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents said the forty-five charges comprise:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
