Followers Urge Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are demanding that a person who jumped a barricade and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the individual from Australia shoving aside camera operators and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Record of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile contains clips of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Well-being
Many supporters accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande seemed shocked when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of fans had congregated in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The film, to be premiered on November 21, is the sequel of a two-part version of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely bond between two contrasting witches.
The show itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, winning several for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
