Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Regional Military Operations.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is unclear and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
