An individual who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two children both nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said items including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said the man continued to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the situation.
The prosecutor stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities once more.
She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
