A 60-day cruise circling the Australian Coast has been cancelled following the fatal incident of an senior female passenger who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant island.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the vessel, but separated from the party for a break. The vessel departed without her and went back later that day after the personnel realised the passenger was missing.

An extensive search operation located her remains the following day.

Investigative bodies are examining the incident, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that passengers and crew on the ship were told that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "tragic passing and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Officials also published an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Master" preventing any new passengers from getting on the vessel.

The representative said that they would inspect the ship in Cairns upon its coming back.
