The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
