The Renowned Musician Urges Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to provide aid to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The track was produced after a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The diverse array of performers contributing to Lullaby includes a selection of acclaimed names from the music world. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a team of music creators. The single features a combination of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The group managing the initiative have emphasized that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These donations will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a representative commented. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of buildings described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a handful of millions is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is primarily making this cause better known and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
