Three-time award winner Jokic suffers a 'devastating' knee injury.
Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" knee injury as the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
Jokic injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half following an accidental contact with teammate Jones.
Jones landed on the footwear of the big man, who promptly collapsed to the floor holding his knee.
The 30-year-old, who is leading the league season in boards and assists, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the game before suffering the setback.
The player will have an scan on the following day to assess the extent of the issue.
"Instantly, he knew something was wrong," stated Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Anyone that suffers an injury, that's tough to see, particularly a player as special as him. We'll find out more tomorrow."
"We'll move on as a team. Of course, right now, I'm focused just about him personally and the frustration of facing something of that nature."
