Seven-time Grand Slam title holder Venus Williams has secured a wild-card entry for the Australian Open, which kicks off on the 18th of January in the city of Melbourne.

The event organizers confirmed on the weekend that the forty-five-year-old legend will grace the courts again at the tournament venue a staggering 28 years after her debut. Back in 1998, she defeated her sibling Serena in the second round before bowing out in the last eight to compatriot Lindsay Davenport.

Gearing Up for the Summer Swing

Venus had previously revealed in November her plans to play in New Zealand's Auckland Classic, where she also received a wild card, a fortnight prior to the Melbourne event. The Australian Open noted that Williams is also entered to participate in Hobart, Australia a week later, immediately prior to the start of play at the main venue.

Her last appearance in Melbourne was in the year 2021, and she has finished runner-up in the singles competition on two separate instances, losing to Serena in the championship matches of 2003 as well as 2017.
